In a dramatic incident on May 2 in Verden, a 36-year-old woman was brutally attacked with a knife. The alleged perpetrator, a 43-year-old man, is now on trial for attempted murder. The background to the act is domestic violence: the mother of two had previously searched for refuge in the local women's shelter with her children to free herself from her violent partner. Undeterred from her decision, the accused tried to kill her in a shocking act of violence.

The woman who was about to pick up her children from school on this fateful day was attacked next to an office building in Artilleriestrasse. The prosecutor described the crimeful circumstances: "He approached quickly and pulled a long kitchen knife. With incredible force he stabbed the woman who fell to the ground afterwards. To secure her survival, she fought desperately and prevented her thoroughly cut her throat." She suffered at least 49 stab and cuts as well as other bruises that she brought in acute danger to life.

Fortunately, passers -by and a brave driver reacted. Despite the danger, the driver threw objects on the attacker and brought her dog into play. The crucial moment came when the perpetrator managed to drop the knife. In a brave campaign, the driver dragged the seriously injured woman into the car and immediately drove to the hospital, while the accused tried to further attack through the open window. The woman had to be artificially ventilated and remained in acute danger to life for several days

The accused had previously found out about opportunities to determine the woman's whereabouts. After unfortunate phone calls and from a feeling of anger and humiliation, he reached to the gun. The indictment not only accuses him of attempted murder, but also sees the murder characteristics of insidies and low motives. The process is to be continued with a further 11 negotiation days until February 24, 2025, with a total of 18 witnesses and several experts.
