Mannheimer Held Joel Dag: award for brave civil courage!

Mannheim, Deutschland - A brave 20-year-old from Mannheim is awarded for his heroic civil courage! Joel Dag, who intervened two years ago, receives the price "Standing instead of standing" for his extraordinary action. In front of a club in the city center, the then 18-year-old wanted to protect a woman from two attackers who brutally thrown them to the ground. But when he intervened, he himself became the victim of a knife attack and suffered life -threatening injuries that made emergency operation necessary.

heroic deed is rewarded

On Tuesday, November 5, Joel Dag was honored by the police President Ulrike Schäfer and the Security Mayor Volker Proffen (CDU). This award, which is awarded by the Association Safety in Mannheim e.V. (Sima), emphasizes people who act beyond normal in critical situations. Joel, who has studied computer science and now lives in Paderborn, is celebrated as a model for civil courage.

But Joel Dag is not the only hero that day! Three other brave citizens were also awarded: two joggers and a cyclist helped a woman who was threatened by a man with scissors in the middle of the day. They pursued the attacker until the police could intervene and took care of the victim. An impressive example of civil courage!

police warns: civil courage with concern

The Mannheim police, however, warn for caution. Michael Klump emphasizes that civil courage is important, but you shouldn't put yourself in danger. In dangerous situations, it is advisable to first call the police and ask other passers -by for help. It is crucial to stay on site to help injuries and to be able to give off the perpetrator descriptions.
