On Sunday morning, a commemorative lesson was held in Zweibrücken for the Memorial Day, which came up with urgent words. Mayor Marold Wosnitza (SPD) opened the ceremony with a clear message: "We live in politically difficult times".

"It has never been more important than today," he called to those present and recalled the horrors of the two world wars, in which many soldiers lost their lives away from their families.

The honor of the seven fallen soldiers from the paratrooper battalion 263 and the air landing company 260, which left their lives in the service for peace and democracy. Wosnitza gave her names and praised her courage. Schoolchildren of the Helmholtz-Gymnasium also contributed to the memorial lesson by focusing on the horrors of the Second World War and the dangers of hatred and prejudices. Clara Cebulla, Carolina Voigt and Julia Kiefer asked not to forget the teachings from history and to position themselves against right -wing extremist currents.
The pupils were concerned about the influence of right-wing extremists and appealed to their generation to actively oppose hatred and violence. Military pastor Alexander Beck concluded the speaker round with an urgent call to defend the Basic Law and to strengthen democracy in all corners of the republic. "They are not yet in the majority," he warned of the dangers that work out from right -wing parties. The Stadtkapelle Zweibrücken rounded off the ceremony with the chorale "I pray to the power of love", which underlined the importance of peace.
