Zabelitz in turmoil: Sparkasse closes the branch and ATM!
Zabeltitz is about to shock! An inconspicuous shield has put the villagers into turmoil: Sparkasse Meißen closes its branch at the end of the year, and the ATM also disappears on the "Great Emma". The reactions are violent - from disappointment to anger everything is included! The Sparkasse justifies the decision with a lack of use, but the Zabeltitzers feel ignored and see their quality of life threatened.
The branch, which was launched in 2014 as an innovative pilot project, has now become the victim of economic considerations. Ralf Krumbiegel, spokesman for the Sparkasse, explains that the ATM is the least frequented in the region. The costs for operation and maintenance are simply no longer portable. But the Zabeltitzers, led by mayor Marek Börner, are outraged: "This is a big loss for our village!" The decision came as a surprise to many and without prior discussions with those affected.
650 Signatures in the luggage
With 650 signatures, the villagers have set a strong sign. But the Sparkassen board remains unimpressed and declares the decision to be negotiable. Critics such as City Councilor Uwe Schumacher complain that economic figures are placed on people's needs. Older citizens in particular who rely on the ATMs feel abandoned.
Alternatives, such as ordering cash from home, encounter little enthusiasm. The proposed alternative locations in Grossenhain, Nünchritz and Gröditz are not practical for many Zabeltitzers. Marek Börner and Uwe Schumacher are looking for solutions and even think about the installation of a neutral ATM. But time is pushing and hope for a dialogue with the Sparkasse is disappearing. The Zabeltitzers face an uncertain future while looking at the small sign that symbolizes their worries.
