Live or be amazed? Citizens demand pedestrian -friendly avenue in Ludwigshafen!
Ludwigshafen, Deutschland - In Ludwigshafen, the newly emerging city-West sees itself as a modern residential area that is open to the citizens for participation. But a big problem stands in the way of this ideal picture: Helmut-Kohl-Allee. This eight -lane road runs through the planned residential area and creates a clear separation between downtown Ludwigshafens and the Hemshof district. While cars can drive to the Kurt Schumacher Brücke quickly and without traffic jams, the question remains open how pedestrians should safely get to the other side.
The citizens' initiative "Life -worthy Ludwigshafen" brings up concerns about the security and quality of life in this new residential area. The avenue, which is designed as the main traffic artery, could bring massive disadvantages to residents. Among other things, they wonder how many traffic lights and how long footpaths would be necessary to safely cross the street. The offer planning for local transport in this environment also remains unclear.
collection of signatures as a protest
In order to draw attention to the predicament, the citizens' initiative organizes a collection of signatures. The aim is to document demands for more pedestrian -friendly and environmentally friendly planning. Nobody wants to live near a street that affects the quality of life of their surroundings by noise and exhaust gases. The citizens' initiative sees the current plans as obsolete and instead calls for a concept that is based on the needs of people.
The signature collection takes place on several dates. The first appointment is on October 24 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the intersection of Bahnhofstrasse and Bismarckstrasse. Another appointment will follow on October 31, also from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., on the corner of Rohrlachstrasse and Prinzregentenstraße on Bernhard Timmplatz. For those who cannot come by personally, there is also the possibility to sign the Open Petition platform online. This unbureaucratic variant makes it easy for every citizen to participate in the campaign. The link to the online petition is: openpetition.de/stoppthkallee. Further information can be found on your website at www.bilelu.de/stadtstrasse.html.
The necessary dialogue between urban planning and citizens seems to be more in demand than ever. The persistent protests and the collection of signatures could force the city to fundamentally rethink their planning and to find a more sustainable solution that takes into account both traffic and the needs of the residents.
