Vienna proudly introduces a comprehensive climate law as the first federal state!

Vienna took an important step towards climate neutrality until 2040. Vienna is the first federal state in Austria to become a pioneer in climate protection. The law, which includes over 100 measures, ensures the urban climate goals over legislative periods and obliges the city to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2040. The drastic reduction in energy consumption per capita is one of the measures already implemented by 33 percent and a stunning of solar power in the past three years. According to wien.gv.at , over 13,000 photovoltaic systems were installed, which supplies around 72,000 households with clean electricity. By 2030, the city is planning to achieve 800 MWP on solar stream generation, which will make a significant contribution to energy supply.

A central aspect of the Wiener Klimites Act is also the promotion of the bicycle infrastructure. Around 100 kilometers of new cycle paths have been created in the past five years, with additional bike paths planned for the current year. In order to make Vienna even more livable, 500,000 square meters of new or redesigned green spaces have also been added in the past five years. By the end of the year, 25,000 new trees will also be planted.

The way to climate neutrality

In order to comprehensively achieve the goal of climate neutrality, numerous initiatives are implemented. These measures should not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also secure the quality of life of the Viennese.
