Volkswagen under pressure: Facts in Germany threaten!
Volkswagen under pressure: Facts in Germany threaten!
Shock for Volkswagen! The future of three German works is on the brink! Works council chief Daniela Cavallo warns: "None is safe!" The automotive giant checks the closure of the locations Emden, Osnabrück and Dresden, as the "Handelsblatt" reports. While the workforce is frightened and terror, the company itself remains silent and does not show any further information.
The work in Emden, known for the Passat, has transformed into an electrical location and employs 8,600 people. However, despite a billion-dollar investment since 2020, the ligaments have been standing still due to weak e-car demand. VW could save 600 million euros annually in the event of a closure. In Osnabrück, where 2,300 people work, this threatens when the production of T-Roc Cabrio and Porsche models 2026 ends. Here, 130 million euros could be saved annually. And the "glass manufacturer" in Dresden, once a prestige project, is fighting for their existence with only 340 employees. A closure would bring in VW 60 million euros annually.
The location of the other locations
in Wolfsburg, the heart of VW, work 62,000 people, but the utilization is only 50 percent. The production of new electric cars has already been stopped. Hanover, with 14,700 employees, also suffers from personnel loss, while in Zwickau, the e-mobility control unit, the demand for electric vehicles drops dramatically.
But the other locations are also affected: Kassel, Braunschweig, Salzgitter and Chemnitz face major challenges. Kassel is the largest component work, Braunschweig is the oldest VW factory. Salzgitter is converted into a battery cell factory, while Chemnitz is still on combustion engines. The uncertainty hovers over all works and the employees wonder: how long?
