Venezuelan couple enriches Sebnitzer day care center with commitment and language

Sebnitz. A remarkable bright spot in the Christian daycare center "Unterm Rainbow"! Yondher Alvarez and Daniela Guerrero de Alvarez, a Venezuelan couple, have been involved in activity since August. Not only are they voluntarily here, but also bring a breath of fresh air and new perspectives to the facility. While Yondher are active in the morning and Daniela in the afternoon, they recently completed a German and integration course to better integrate into society.

The two refugees from Venezuela, who came to Germany in early 2023 due to the political unrest in their home country, did not stay with inaction for long. "We are not used to doing nothing," explains Daniela Guerrero de Alvarez. Via an online portal for the federal voluntary service, they quickly found their way to the Sebnitz day care center, which urgently needed their help.

The daycare manager Petra Behner is thrilled: "The two are a great help!" With a total of six volunteers in the facility, the care of the children is significantly improved. Yondher and Daniela support, put on and help the caretaker. This additional support ensures that the teachers have more time for the children, which significantly increases the quality of care.

Communication with the children runs smoothly because the couple speaks of nature Spanish. "The children already ask us how things are called Spanish," says Daniela. On special occasions, such as Martin's Day, the story was even told bilingual, which was an exciting experience for the children. In addition, the two Venezuelan recent newcomers from their home country were able to help themselves to get used to the daycare faster.
