Survey shows: Mobility change in everyday life easier than on vacation!

München, Deutschland - Munich (ots)

A new survey by the ADAC illuminates interesting findings on the mobility behavior of people in the different areas of life. The importance of the means of transport varies greatly, depending on whether it is about everyday life, leisure or vacation. All categories, the car remains the most frequently used means of transport, but its use on vacation decreases by 24 percent. This shows that many travelers are looking for a change in their free time.

During the holiday, the plane plays an important role, since it is the preferred choice for travel too far away for many. Interestingly, the railway recorded an increase in use by 14 percent in the vacation time compared to everyday life. This indicates that travelers are willing to try alternative means of transport when it comes to adventure and relaxation.

willingness to change

The survey showed that there is a significant willingness to change mobility behavior. Much of the respondents are more open to changes in everyday life than on vacation. Nevertheless, there is also a majority on vacation that can imagine adapting your mobility behavior, whereby the increase in train trips is mentioned as the most likely measure. This shows a certain awareness of sustainable alternatives, even if the willingness is not as pronounced as in everyday life.

Especially the "hard" factors such as reliability and flexibility play a crucial role in decision -making. This means that people above all make sure that their trips go smoothly. Emotional aspects such as fun and habit take a back seat. This realization puts the need for substantial improvements in the range of alternative means of transport such as the railway.

As far as the climate goals are concerned, 45 percent of those surveyed see the change of drive to e-mobility or alternative fuels than necessary. 31 percent consider the switch to low-CO2 transport crucial. In young adults and city dwellers, both options are considered almost equally important. This could be an incentive for political decision -makers to invest more in environmentally friendly technologies.

responsibility and costs

When asked who is responsible for climate and environmentally friendly mobility, most respondents called the state. In comparison, the individual responsibility of older respondents is weighted higher than by younger ones. The latter see increased responsibility for companies, which indicates growing awareness of the role of private sector.

The survey indicates that higher costs for sustainable mobility do not lead to a rethink. Despite the fact that the costs are an important factor, the results show that many people are not willing to accept minor price increases on vacation to travel more sustainably. This represents a challenge for the realization of climate goals. ADAC Tourism President Karl-Heinz Jungbeck emphasizes: "But there is a need for significant efforts on the offer page to promote changes."
