U-custody for 13 suspects after cruel HATE crime in Graz!
Graz, Österreich - On March 21, 2025, a serious case of Hate Crime became known in Graz, which was directed against homosexual men. The following Sunday, March 23, 2025, 13 suspects were taken into custody, as the Graz public prosecutor's office under the direction of Christian Kroschl confirmed. Since May 2024, the suspects have lured victims of fake profiles in social networks in remote locations, where they were then abused and humiliated.
So far, a total of 18 people have been arrested and 26 house searches were carried out in several federal states and in Slovakia. During these searches, the investigators secured numerous evidence, including data carriers and weapons. A suspect that was caught in Slovakia is to be delivered promptly. According to the investigation, at least 17 victims, including heterosexuals, were robbed, violated and incorrectly subordinated pedophilia.severe physical assault and results of the investigation
In several cases, attempted murder and serious bodily harm are assumed. The victims, who were often expected by four to eight masked perpetrators, report severe abuse. The police assume a high number of unreported cases of other victims, which is why there is a call to report to the State Criminal Police Office in Graz.
The case represents a terrifying expression of queer hostility. According to an analysis of the lesbian and gay association Germany (LSVD), hate crime is the most massive form of expression that aims to intimect entire population groups. This is also reflected in the increasing number of cases of LSBTIQ*-hostile crimes that often give the victims psychological problems and anxiety.
social relevance and outlook
The recording of hate crime is inadequate in Germany and many acts are not displayed. Statistics show a significant increase in such crimes in recent years. The responsibility to combat hate crime lies with the interior ministries, which should urgently take measures to both increase the location and to promote prevention.
The investigation in Graz continues and clearly show how important a consistent approach to such offenses is. The case is another reminder event to deal with the problem of hate crime and to ensure the security of LSBTIQ*personnel in society. The responsible authorities must do everything they can to pursue these crimes and to protect the rights and safety of those affected.
