Winter onset in Thuringia: Snow chaos causes traffic problems!
Winter conditions have a firm grip on Thuringia! In the early morning hours, snow and smoothness ensured massive traffic disruptions, especially in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen. A transverse truck blocked the road between Zella-Mehlis and Oberhof and led to a traffic chaos that brought numerous vehicles to a standstill.
The police reported several left cars and traffic jams that spread quickly. There were also similar problems on the route between Hüpstedt and the Rüdigershagen junction, but around 8 a.m. the road was free again. Fortunately, despite the adverse conditions, there were no accidents according to the situation center of the Ministry of the Interior.
Schneekhaos in the altitudes
The German Weather Service reports from up to twelve centimeters of fresh snow on the decorations and the Bleßberg! In the higher altitudes, between one and five centimeters fell, while up to seven centimeters were even measured in storage. It was also six centimeters in Neuhaus am Rennweg, and even in Altenburg there were still one or two centimeters of snow.
But the joy of wintry splendor could quickly fly away! On Tuesday night, up to four centimeters of fresh snow is expected above 700 to 800 meters, but stormy winds could cloud winter pleasure. The road users are urgently asked to adjust to the winter road conditions and to drive carefully!
