Nordhausen students conquer the stratosphere: an adventure in Sweden!

Nordhausen. The Nordhausen University has again researched and impressed at the heights of science! Engineering students returned from Sweden after having carried out a breathtaking experiment with a stratospheric balloon. With a treasure of new findings, start the new semester!

The team Bexus-Aresonus successfully carried out a challenging experiment at the Esrange space center. The stratospheric balloon BX 35 shot at dizzying heights of 27,800 meters - this is three times as high as the travel flight height of commercial aircraft! During the flight, the students experienced temperatures of minus 72.2 degrees Celsius and an air pressure of only 15.4 billion. But that was not all: they also collected data about infrasound, a sound area that the human ear cannot perceive. After this spectacular flight, the balloon landed in Finland.

team spirit and expertise at the highest level

"This project has enormously strengthened our expertise and teamwork," explains the team of five proudly. The members include Niclas Bierwisch, Sabine Köhler, Sven Malag, Ria Bele Pohley and Johann Stibritz, who were accompanied by the professors Viehmann and Neitzke. The young researchers consider this project as a highlight of their engineering training and are full of anticipation for the upcoming data analyzes.

With the Bexus Aresonus project, the Nordhausen University continues its impressive series of aviation and space experiments and consolidates its role in the European educational and research landscape. This ambitious project was supported by the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA), the European Space Agency (ESA), the Zarm Bremen and the Swedish Space Corporation (SSC).
