Renaissance of the manor house: Thuringia receives 20,000 euros for renovation

An important step for the preservation of historical buildings will be celebrated on Monday, December 16, 2024. The German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD) provides 20,000 euros for the renovation of the manor house. These funding come from the Community Foundation of Historical Gardens, supported by numerous donations and the lottery fortune spiral. At a press appointment, Friedrich Bürglen, local curator Jena of the DSD, hands over the symbolic funding contract in the presence of the Lotto Thuringia representative Corinna Heller and the monument owner Professor Dr. Timo Mappes. Work is planned on the dry masonry of the garden terrace, on the enclosure masonry of the baroque garden portal and on the fountain wreath. The manor house, surrounded by a wonderful baroque park, has been one of over 530 objects since 2022, which can be restored thanks to the DSD in Thuringia, as Denkmalschutz.de

challenge due to water withdrawal

In another part of Germany, however, a historic manor house faces larger challenges. The magnificent building in Türnich, which was built between 1757 and 1766, suffers greatly from the consequences of a drastic groundwater waste. The cause is the lignite mining, which has reduced the water level from 80 cm to terrifying 280 m. These geological changes have caused the entire lock to be wrong, since a clay lens runs under the building that forms cavities in water withdrawal. The castle has been empty since 1979, and the family who lived there was exposed to the unstable conditions. Despite this predicament, substantial renovations have been carried out in recent years by financial support from the German Foundation for Monument Protection, the State of North Rhine -Westphalia and the City of Kerpen.
