Jena cheers: Dramatic cup victory ensures semi -finals!
An exciting duel in the Thuringia Cup ended with a narrow but decisive victory for Carl Zeiss Jena! In front of 2,270 enthusiastic spectators in the urban stadium in the Heinpark, the outsider Rudolstadt showed a lot of courage at the beginning and almost caused the surprise. In the tenth minute, midfielder Sven Rupprecht came to the end after a header extension in front of Jena's keeper Alexios Dedidis, but the goalkeeper remained cool and parried. A real shock for the hosts, because such opportunities simply have to be used to annoy the favorite!
Jena turns the game!
The Rudolstadt residents quickly realized that missed opportunities can take revenge. Just 13 minutes later it was Benjamin Zank who, after a precise flank by Ken Gipson in the penalty area, turned the lead for Jena undisturbed. From that moment on, the favorite took the command and played more powerfully, but until half -time it remained 1-0. The second half started promising, but then both teams switched back a gear. Between the 50th and 80th minute there were hardly any noteworthy actions, and the fighting spirit was the only thing that could be seen on the square.
But the final phase then kept the audience in suspense! In the 83rd minute, the Joker Robin Ensenbach provided the compensation with a flat shot that had the Rudolstadt cheered. But the joy lasted briefly: just two minutes later it was substitute Joel Richter who scored the winning goal for Carl Zeiss Jena! With this scarce but deserved victory, Jena moves into the semi -finals and remains on course for the cup title. A gripping game that the fans will not be forgotten so quickly!
