Hope and help: Thuringian support fleeing Armenians in need

Plaue. in the Liebfrauenkirche in Plaue reported Gabi and Mikle Damm as well as Anita Meinig about the impressive work of the Armenia Aid Holzhausen-Schlöben. This committed group from Thuringia has been providing tireless help for the needy people in Armenia, a country that is shaped by poverty and conflicts despite its breathtaking beauty.

The picturesque Armenia, known as the land of Noah's ark, stands on the threshold between Europe and Asia and suffers from the consequences of a decades of conflict about Bergkarabach. In autumn 2023, Azerbaijan recaptured the resource -rich area, which led to the flight of around 120,000 Armenians. The Thuringian sponsorship families have motivated these tragic circumstances to become active and provide help for self -help. They collect donations and hand them over on site to ensure that the support actually arrives.

In October 2024, Gabi and Mikle Damm will travel to Armenia together with Anita and Robby Meinig. In a moving lecture in Plaue, they reported on the living conditions of the sponsorship families to support them. Under the title "On the way on stony hope", they took around 20 visitors on a trip to the life of families such as the student Stella and the widow Lusine, who was able to build a house for themselves and their children.

The living conditions in Armenia are often hard. The sponsorship families live in cramped conditions in which stove and furniture have to be on the floor and bedrooms have to be shared. The hope of being able to return to Arzach one day unites people who, despite their Armenian origin in Armenia, are often not accepted. Another highlight for interested parties will take place on November 2, when Heinrich Geuther from the German-Armenian Society gives an exciting overview of the history of Armenia at 5 p.m. in the parish hall of the St. Jacobus Church in Ilmenau.
