Million aid for regiomed clinics: rescue for Hildburghausen and Sonneberg!
Hildburghausen, Deutschland - A dramatic turning point for the former Regiomed Hospitals in Hildburghausen and Sonneberg! The budget committee of the state parliament has approved a huge financial injection of a total of 15 million euros in order to secure the restart after the bankruptcy. Committee chairman Maik Kowalleck confirmed the decision that comes from two main sources: 9.5 million euros flow from the country's Corona and Energy Aid Fund, while the remaining 5.5 million euros will be provided from the state budget by 2028.
The backgrounds are dramatic: the bankruptcy of the Regiomed Group led to the takeover of the Henneberg Clinics and the Medinos clinics through the districts, which they fully owed. The Ministry of Health already provided 5 million euros for this. A loan was originally planned by the Thuringian construction bar, but it was rejected due to the lack of security. Corona pandemic has further tightened the situation because the number of patients drops drastically, which further advanced bankruptcy.
political reactions to the decision
The committee's decision was celebrated as a success by politicians from various political groups. SPD budget politician Janine Merz emphasized that the clinics can now be continued to secure health care in the region. "It would have been fatal if the hospitals should have closed," she said. The left-wing member Ulrike Grosse-Röthig also described the decision as a central course for the Thuringian hospital landscape.
But not everyone is enthusiastic: the CDU warns of the consequences of failed structural decisions and emphasizes that the help of clear renovation measures are bound. CDU finance politician Ulrike Jary made it clear that it was not a blank check. Health politician Christoph Zippel criticized the previous red-red-green state government and explained that Thuringia has now had the consequences of the poor planning of recent years.
