Kaufland strikes: Five branch closings until March 2025!
Kaufland plans extensive closures of branches in Germany. In a recent report it was announced that the company will close further locations in the coming months. After three closings in 2024, including branches in Siegen, Greiz and Bochum-Ruhrpark, there are now two other branches on the list of affected locations.
In January 2025, the branch in the Palais Vest in Recklinghausen will be closed, followed by the closure of the branch in Dortmund-Mengede in March 2025. These closures are made for economic reasons, although no further planned closures have communicated.
Details about the closures
The closings are part of a more comprehensive corporate strategy of Kaufland, which currently operates more than 770 branches in Germany and employs over 90,000 employees. Despite the closures, two new branches in North Rhine-Westphalia were also opened in 2024. In addition, the Federal Cartel Office approved the takeover of four additional locations in November 2024, which indicates a further expansion of the company.
While the closings were carried out in Siegen, Greiz and Bochum-Ruhrpark in June 2024, the current planning shows that the company will close a total of five branches by early 2025. Four of these closed locations are located in North Rhine-Westphalia, which could indicate a possible concentration on certain markets.
