OhrDruf: Historical registry office books now in the district archive!

An exciting chapter in the history of the Gotha district archive is opened! Around 15 running meters of valuable registry books from the city of Ohrdruf are now part of the archive. These historical documents, which include birth, marriage and death books from 1876 to 1993, are true treasure chests for genealogists and those interested in history. They contain information about the towns of Crawinkel, Luisenthal, Gräfenhain, Wölfis and the city of Ohrdruf itself.

District Administrator Onno Eckert and Sonja Record, the head of the Gotha district archive, have ceremoniously presented the new stocks. "The books are largely in good condition," emphasizes the present. The city of Ohrdruf, under the direction of Mayor Schambach and registrar Dippel, has made an important step with this handover. "It is not a matter of course that cities and municipalities entrust our treasures to us. We are all the more grateful," she adds and encourages other cities to follow this example.

Optimal storage conditions for historical documents

In the district archive there are ideal conditions for storing these valuable files. A constant room temperature of 18 degrees ensures that the documents are well protected. Specialist staff takes care of the safe custody and development of the stocks, so that they will soon be accessible to private individuals, ancestral researchers and heir investigators. In total, there are impressive 1,642 running meters of files in the end archive of the district archive, including maps, pictures, administrative files from 1952, postcards and certificates.
