Gotha Glitzert: First Christmas tree shines before the winter market!
Gotha celebrates the first Christmas tree in Thuringia! On Monday afternoon, the spectacular 22 meter long red spruce was set up on the city's main market. The magnificent tree, 43 years old and with an impressive crown diameter of eight to ten meters, was felled in the forest between Luisenthal and Oberhof on Monday morning. A powerful truck brought the piece of jewelry safely to its new location, where a crane ensured perfect positioning.
But that's just the beginning! On Tuesday, the second Christmas tree, also an impressive spruce, will be set up at the lower main market. This comes from the Gräfenhain area and will illuminate the winter days with the first Christmas mood in Gotha.
The winter market will open shortly
Gotha decided to set up early because the winter market opens its gates on November 18. In order to avoid logistical difficulties, the choice fell on this Monday. However, the trees only bloom in full light for the official opening of the Christmas market on November 25th. In other cities in the region such as Suhl, where the Christmas trees are set up on November 2, or Gera, which follows on November 13, the competition is shown in the festive race. In Eisenach, a blue fir will even shine on November 14th!
Traditionally, the Advent season only begins after the Sunday of the Dead, and the discussions about the opening of the Christmas markets in Thuringia have long been a hot topic. Nevertheless, Gotha cannot be stopped by these traditions and brings the festive atmosphere to the city at an early stage!
