Christmas market in Gera: Laser show only for the opening - fans disappointed!
Gera, Deutschland - The Christmas market in Gera, a true winter wonderland, has been attracting the masses for weeks! With his magical flair and highlights such as puppet theater and magical shows, he inspires young and old. But this year there is an unexpected turn that clouds the anticipation!
The popular laser show, an integral part of the market and a real crowd puller, is severely restricted this year. Mayor Kurt Dannenberg announced that the spectacular show, which has caused enthusiasm in the past two years, will only take place at the opening on November 28th at 5 p.m. "I am aware that this is an emotional matter," said Dannenberg, who did not make the decision lightly. The economic framework in Advent 2024 forced the city administration to make this difficult decision.
Financial challenges for the Christmas market
The costs for the laser show are exorbitant! With around 4,000 euros per show, the city would come to a whopping 16,000 euros during a performance on every Advent Sunday. In addition, there are increasing GEMA fees and operating costs, which further burden the city's budget. The decision to take the laser show once was not easy, but the city administration had to act to master the financial challenges.
But the Geraer don't have to do without the light spectacle! From November 28th, visitors to the fairytale market can experience the laser show. In addition, there are other festive program items every day from 11 a.m. to December 23, including Santa Claus consultation hours and the carillon from the town hall tower. So the anticipation remains unbroken despite the restrictions!
