Students discover exciting professions: practice coordinators in action!
Bad Salzungen, Deutschland - An exciting project day of the IHK Erfurt took place on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, for 52 students from the regular school "Erste Stadtschule" in Bad Salzungen! The eight and ninth graders immersed in the world of professions and visited four companies in the Wartburg district. Here they were able to experience up close what exciting apprenticeships and activities in their region are waiting for. This day is part of the innovative “Practice Coordinator” project, which aims to strengthen the professional orientation of young people and to expand their perspectives on local career paths.
"Practical closeness is the key to securing skilled workers!" Emphasizes Jonas Witzel, practice coordinator at the IHK Erfurt. The students had the unique opportunity to speak to specialists and to get to know the real processes in the companies. In Barchfeld-Himmelborn they visited Oerlikon Metco Woka GmbH, KRS Seigert GmbH, KEM Krappmann Elektromontage GmbH and linen. Here they were able to experience professions such as industrial mechanics, electronics technicians or material testers up close and even become active by creating circuits or taking on everyday tasks in the production company.

The “Practice Coordinator” project is generously supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as well as the Federal Institute for Vocational Training BIBB. The aim is to promote close cooperation between schools and companies in order to support schoolchildren in the career choice at an early stage. Such project days are crucial in order to make professional orientation practical and eventful and to strengthen securing skilled workers in the region in the long term. A day full of inspiration and new opportunities for the youngsters!
