The application deadlines for the special classes and high schools in Thuringia are determined as follows: Applications can be submitted for the special classes in the MINT area and music by February 14, 2025. Applications for the special gymnasium for languages are to be made from February 10th to 15th, 2025, while the special high school for music accepts applications by February 24, 2025. For the special gymnastics for sports, the registration periods from March 3 to 8, 2025. Various special schools in Thuringia

Thuringia offers a total of three special gymnasiums with sports performance funding in Oberhof, Jena and Erfurt. In addition, there is a state special gymnasium for languages in Schnepfenthal and the Belvedere Music High School. There is also the Gera Rutheneum, which offers special classes in music. In the MINT area, three high schools in Jena, Erfurt and Ilmenau are active that offer special classes for talented students. In the current school year 2023/24, a total of 519 students learn in special classes, while a total of 1505 students receive lessons at the five special schools.

Minister Christian Tischner underlined the importance of talent promotion and explained that students receive individual support after entrance exams. This includes access to student research centers, bilingual teaching, technical equipment and international competitions. For foreign students there is the possibility to accommodate boarding school.

The schools in Thuringia attach great importance to comprehensive funding. Community schools and special high schools are obliged to take into account the individual needs of the students, in particular when it comes to extraordinary talents.
