A big step for hiking friends and nature enthusiasts! The state of Thuringia has increased the grants for the new hiking car park at the beginning of the famous Rennsteig near Eisenach. Now the project can finally be implemented!
The city of Eisenach receives a new funding notice that ensures the financing of the hiking car park in the Hörschel district. The construction work should start before winter or at the beginning of next year. Mayor Christoph Ihling (CDU) is enthusiastic: "I would like to thank the Free State for the additional support. The project will increase the attractiveness of our region for tourists and at the same time improve the infrastructure for the citizens."

The new parking lot is not only equipped with barrier -free sanitary facilities, but also the walkways along Rennsteigstrasse are expanded to optimize the connection to local public transport. In addition, a new jetty for water hikers is being built on the Hörsel. District Mayor Christian Hell is pleased about the progress: "The expansion of the sidewalk creates a secure connection between the stop and the town center. The new parking lot offers ideal conditions for guests if you seamlessly switch from the car to the Rennsteig, hiking trails or listening."
In addition, preparations are made for an electric charging station, caravan parking spaces with supply and disposal facilities are set up and information boards are set up. The total costs for this ambitious project amount to 2.15 million euros, with 75 percent being covered by funding from the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs. The city of Eisenach contributes 540,000 euros. A real highlight for the region!
