Halloween or Reformation Day? A look at October 31st in Eisenach!

a dramatic Halloween? Not in Eisenach!

The pumpkin harvest this season was a real flop - frost and snails have put a spanner in the top! The result? No creepy pumpkins for Halloween. In a small village near Eisenach, the number of children who go on sweets or acids in the evening have dropped drastically in the past 20 years. A reason to celebrate looks different!

Reformation Day vs. Samhain

October 31, often connected with creepy hustle and bustle, is not a Halloween day here in Eisenach. Rather, it is celebrated as a Reformation Day, an important thing in the Lutherstadt! However, the children are not withheld from the joy of dressing up and pulling around the house. Despite the Christian roots that this day brings, the pumpkin carve is simply part of it.

But that's not all! The old Celtic holiday Samhain, which means "union", also originated on this date. He honors the dead and the unborn life, without any pumpkins and commerce. To celebrate and commemorate a profound reason!
