Semester break: traffic chaos in Austria expected!
On Friday, February 7, 2025, the time has come: Around 340,000 pupils in Burgenland, Carinthia, Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg can look forward to their semester products and celebrate the start of the week -long vacation. At the same time, however, around 450,000 children and adolescents in Vienna and Lower Austria have to go back to school. The return to the classroom brings changed rules: In elementary schools, children are allowed to sit again at the seat without a mask, while in the higher schools there are still strict mask obligation, with FFP2 masks for the upper grades. These new regulations come into force immediately after the semester break, as well as Puls24 reported.

The upcoming holidays and the start of school in the neighboring country of Germany ensure a rush on the streets that could lead to the usual traffic problems. Cutlets are thus inevitable, especially on weekends. Because not only the students from Austria are affected, numerous families from parts of the Czech Republic also compete. While the first seasons of the semester break in Austria has already started, the third season in Styria and Upper Austria is imminent from February 21st, as 5min reports.
The traffic authorities advise plan to plan forward and stay at home as far as possible in order to reduce the stress on the streets. The combinations of the beginning of school and vacation time will undoubtedly put a significant burden on the traffic situation and should be taken seriously by drivers.
