Heroes of the very beginning: The First Responder of Klein Wesenberg
Klein Wesenberg. Here, where time often decides on life and death, the courageous first responders are ready when every second is available! These volunteers are the first point of contact in emergencies if the emergency services are not quick enough. "As a rule, we are at the scene in four minutes," explains the committed instructor Martina Weimann, who, together with her husband Heiko, heads the troop. Her mission: save life in the critical minutes until the emergency doctor arrives.
You have just completed your 100th assignment - a cardiological emergency in Groß Schenkenberg. The rescuers hurried to the site with flashing lights and siren, but despite all the efforts, it was not possible to save the patient's life. These tragic moments are part of their everyday life, because it is often about everything or nothing. Especially for cardiovascular standards, the chance of survival with every passed minute drops dramatically by ten percent! But the Klein Wesenberger also saved many lives and can look back on impressive use statistics: 46 internal and 31 surgical missions, including six resuscitation.
Removing until the professionals arrive
The spectrum of the operations is diverse: from heart attacks to strokes to traffic accidents. The rescuers and circulation rescue the rescue, carry out EKGs and use defibrillators. Your training includes 80 hours of emergency medical training and special instruction in the use of defibrillators. They are ready for use around the clock and ensure that patients receive the necessary primary care until the professionals arrive.
The first responder team now consists of 23 volunteers, including an emergency doctor who is also a cardiologist, and several paramedics. The youngest helper is only 19 years old, while the oldest has 54 years old. The idea for the foundation of this unit arose New Year's Eve in 2019, when the Weimanns noticed that in emergencies there are often long waiting times for the emergency services. Her concept immediately found support in the community, and so the First Responder group was launched. "We are now a permanent institution," says Martina Weimann proudly.
