Table tennis district championships: Fahrenkrug triumphs despite the decline!
Fahrenkrug. In the middle of a decline in table tennis in the district of Segeberg, which has fallen by 17 active ones compared to the previous year, the sport still shines bright! Sportsman Karsten Rathje draws a positive conclusion after the district championships in the Bad Segeberg district sports hall: "Table tennis in the Segeberg district lives!" Despite the new tournament license regulation, which has been introduced by the German Table Tennis Association since July 1st and causes confusion nationwide, 53 players came together to fight the titles in four performance classes.
The two clubs SC Ellerau and TuS Fahrenkrug put almost half of the participants together. Particularly impressive: The athletes from Fahrenkrug secured eight of the twelve titles! "A remarkable balance sheet," Rathje praised the achievements of his protégés. Among the stars of the tournament, 15-year-old David Schander stands out, who triumphed in the E-Class in both singles and in doubles. In the gripping single finale, after five exciting sentences against Pierre Ruschinski (SC Ellerau), he prevailed and won the title in doubles alongside Sebastian Schau, a newcomer who only started table tennis eight months ago
dominance in the classes
Matthias Junge from SC Ellerau was the undisputed champion of the D-Class, which only gave up his first sentence in the final against Nils Kudelko (Kaltenkirchener TS). He secured the double title with his team -mate Thomas Sprengelmeier. In the C-Class, Life Waldron shone, which was victorious both in singles and in doubles with Jens Härmand (both TuS Fahrenkrug). Waldron had to fight hard against Claas Brüning from SC Ellerau, to secure his success in five sets.
The highest performance class, the A/B competition, was the smallest with only seven participants. Here Sascha Mundt (TuS Fahrenkrug) prevailed in an exciting final with 3: 2 sets against his club colleague Niklas Rüb. Both finalists have now qualified for the national championships in Tarp in January. Rüb was also successful in doubles, together with Irmantas Valski (TuS Fahrenkrug).
