Bad Bramstedt. A dramatic struggle for the survival of the social department store in the Maien Beeck has started! Gesa Kitschke, the managing director of Diakonie Altholstein, had personally came to the meeting of the social committee in order to describe the alarming financial situation. For 2025 there is a huge budget hole of 70,000 euros, which urgently needs to be covered by the city of Bad Bramstedt, the district of Segeberg and the Bad Bramstedt country office. But the Segeberg district has already given a clear rejection!

Diakonie had asked for support: 30,000 euros from the district, 24,000 euros from the city and 16,000 euros from the office. While the Bad Bramstedt-Land office was the only one, the district of Segeberg refers to the social department store in Bad Segeberg, which successfully operates without state funds. The application of the Diakonie was taken away from the agenda because Kitschke had announced that he would try to donate. The Greens proposed to postpone the decision to March, which means that the urgently needed 24,000 euros are not planned for the next year.

Kitschke had to go home empty-handed. "We will now try to recruit third-party funds, for example in foundations such as Aktion Mensch or Bingo lottery," she said. If this does not succeed, the social department store is facing out! It is an important starting point for around 2,600 paying customers per month and not only offers goods, but also a social meeting point. Kitschke emphasizes the importance of the facility for people with low incomes and sustainability through the sale.
