Care in the Segeberg district: challenges and solutions for the future!

In the district of Segeberg it is bubbling: The Segeberg care day 2024 has moved the alarming challenges of care in the spotlight! Around 70 participants, including mayors, nursing management and representatives of welfare associations, gathered to discuss the future of care. The central question: How can we secure the care and support for people in need? With a look into the future it became clear that about 30 percent of the population will be over 65 years old by 2040 - this means a dramatic increase in those in need of care!

"If the current conditions remain unchanged, we could assume 9,650 people in need of care, which corresponds to an increase of 27 percent compared to 2021," warns Denise Daude-Easter, social planner at the Segeberg district. The situation is explosive: fewer and fewer people can or want to take care of the family, and the shortage of skilled workers in professional care makes the situation even more precarious. Anke Carsjens, project coordinator for preventive home visits, emphasizes that older and dementia -suffering people are particularly affected. Current statistics show that over 70 percent of the people who are recognized are cared for at home - often from relatives who often suffer from difficult conditions.

A call to change

The responsibility is clearly with the municipalities! You have to ensure that family, neighborly and professional resources work together optimally. The day care for the care not only offered a platform for discussions, but also for creative solutions. The participants developed ideas, how the different needs of "young old", "highly old" and "highly tuned" can be better met. "There was a very intensive exchange," reports Susanne Stiedwindt, specialist service in social security. The feedback was clear: an annual exchange is essential to increase the visibility of care in the municipalities!

The district administration has undertaken to spread the information about support offers more specifically. "We have to make the existing information more accessible," says Strewandt. Interested parties can contact you at any time at nursing tag@segeberg.de. Further information and results of the exchange are available at www.segeberg.de/pflegeag. The future of care in Segeberg is on the brink - and everyone can make a contribution!
