New hiking trail in Oering: Citizens enjoy nature and history!
In the small town of Oering, the sponsoring association of the municipality, although it has only existed for three years, has already set significant accents. The highlight for 2024 is a new hiking trail that extends over around ten kilometers. On this route, visitors will find numerous seating and twelve information boards that offer insights into the flora and fauna as well as the history of the area. Dashers for better cleanliness were also planned. The hiking trail will be a valuable addition to the existing hiking trails in the neighboring communities such as Seth.
The idea of setting up seating on the popular hiking and walking paths in Oering is due to inquiries of committed citizens. Jens Peters, a board member of the association, reports: "Two benches then became ten and twelve signs." This initiative shows the commitment of the community, but also the challenges that such a implementation brings.
Financing and Cost
The finances represented a hurdle that should not be underestimated. The association has annual expenditure of around 10,000 euros to implement sustainable projects in Oering. When the costs for the new hiking trail, which was estimated at almost 19,000 euros, began to go beyond the club's budgets, the Alsterland active region was won over to support the financing. Of the total costs, 15,000 euros come from the funds in this region, while the support association contributed 4,000 euros.
With a clear route, which is based on near-natural walking and cycling paths, the hike begins at the memorial in Oering. The citizens who have participated in this project show not only interest in improving the infrastructure, but also in the preservation of local nature and history. Private property owners also had to be contacted for the installation of the benches and panels, which according to Peters was uncomplicated.
Event for the inauguration
The opening ceremony of the new hiking trail will take place on November 10th at 11 a.m. and is open to all citizens and interested visitors. The starting point at the memorial becomes a meeting point for a small exploration tour around the village.
The tables along the way not only offer information about the local flora and fauna, but also exciting historical insights, for example to the former marl cubes or the narrow -gauge railways of the region. Jens Peters and his team have extensively informed themselves and consulted experts from various areas for support, including local historians and the state archive.
The support association shows with this project an exemplary commitment to the municipality and is perceived positively by the community representatives because it has taken the application for funding himself. With this hiking trail, Oering not only wants to present its beauty, but also promote interest in nature and history in the region.
