Bad Segeberg, Deutschland - A dream will come true! Two brave runners from the Lions Bad Segeberg-Siegesburg have faced the world's largest marathon in New York City. Dr. Ramez Shahin and Heinz Sandbrink fulfilled a long-cherished wish with their start at the New York Marathon. The two athletes belong to the run group Run-to-Run, which was launched in 2019 and meets regularly at the picturesque Segeberg Lake.
After five months of intensive training and over 520 kilometers, the time had finally come! The two runners started in the fifth wave of start on Sunday at 11.30 a.m. Dr. Shahin with the start number 44648 and Sandbrink with number 59332 fought through the streets of New York. Dr. Shahin finished 35.226 after 4:44:15 hours, while Sandbrink with a time of 5:17:54 hours the 44,435. Ranked. "The mood in New York is incomparable. People celebrate all runners, regardless of where they come from," enthused Dr. Shahin. Sandbrink added: "The support along the route is overwhelming. Live music and cheering calls carried us over the 42 kilometers."
