Youth in the district council: Segeberg students shape their future active!

Bad Segeberg. An exciting day for the young people from 13 Segeberg schools! In the theater studio of the youth academy, 70 teenagers discuss their ideas and applications as part of the “Youth in the district council”. District Member Diane Brügmann is enthusiastic: "The applications that you decide here make a difference!" On the agenda there are explosive topics such as a zebra speedster for more security, mobile bus stops and meatless school dinner.

The decisions that are made here could soon reach the real district council. An example of the influence of young people: further training for educators that are already being planned. "I want to change something, that's the first step," says the newly elected youth district president Daria (15) from Bad Bramstedt. The young people work in groups and passionately discuss topics that affect them.

A highlight of the session: the proposal for a zebra flasher in Wahlstedt, which is supposed to hold drivers while crossing pedestrians. Laura presents the idea that is estimated at 30,000 euros and is to be refinanced by fines. But the vote brings a surprise: With a tie of 27 yes and 27 no votes, the application is rejected.

The AG public transport also has an exciting idea: mobile bus stops that are to be marked at lanterns. But the suggestions encounter resistance. "This is democracy," say Emma and Fenja, who cannot be discouraged. Finally, the idea of equipping poorly illuminated stops with LED lights is accepted with a large majority. The application for vegetarian school meals at vocational schools is also approved. The future of the suggestions is now in the hands of the Segeberg district council!
