Emna is finally allowed to eat: Elementary school Rickling finds a solution!
A dramatic turning point for the small EMNA (8)! After months of struggle for her right to school meal, the Rickling primary school has finally found a solution. The school management had previously decided that Emna should not take part in lunch due to her nut allergy, which the parents made great concern. "The child could suffer an allergic shock," it said. But now there is hope!
Official director Jörn Klatt surprisingly announced that Emna can eat on days when the food is guaranteed to eat! The parents have to give an alternative on other days. "Manufacturers secure themselves with the wording 'can contain traces of nuts'," explains Klatt. This now also applies to school to ensure the safety of all children. Mayor Keno Jantzen emphasizes that the child's well -being comes first, but the responsibility of the school staff should not be neglected.
parents are happy about the compromise
The parents of Emna are relieved by this compromise. "That is what I wanted all the time," says mother Nourel Trigui. But the strict food controls at school caused confusion. For Emnas 8th birthday, their foam kisses were not allowed to be distributed because they "could contain traces of nuts" on the packaging. Ironically, another child was allowed to eat Emna with similar sweets. "As a rule, there are no nuts in such foods," explains father Amin Maazoune.
In the event of an anaphylactic shock, EMNA has her emergency medication with her. Previously, the school staff had not expected the administration of medication, but Klatt assures that the OGS staff has now been trained. A safe cabinet for the medication is also set up so that all teachers can act quickly in an emergency. Emna can finally take part in school meal like all other children - a big step for her family!
