Schleswig-Holstein is in the starting blocks for the festive season! In a courageous step, the first Christmas markets open before the Sunday of the Dead. From November 21, visitors can get the first delicacies and gifts at the Kiel Christmas market. The showmen are determined to use every day in these economically challenging times to increase their sales.

Not everyone is thrilled! The Nordkirche raises the alarm and criticizes the early opening of the markets. In her opinion, the contemplative time of the mourning, which symbolizes the Dead Sunday, is overlaid by the festive mood and the hustle and bustle of the Christmas markets. On this quiet holiday, which falls on November 24 this year, public celebrations and events that do not correspond to the serious character of the day are prohibited. The markets in Kiel and Husum will remain closed that day, while the authorities have to decide whether and how the markets can open at all on this day.
