Self-determination law: Schleswig-Holstein experiences rush to gender changes!
Kiel, Deutschland - From November 1st, the gender change in the ID card in Schleswig-Holstein will be child's play! Thanks to the new self -determination law, those affected can now change their gender entry much easier. The outdated transsexual law, which has been in force for over 44 years, is abolished. Instead of a complicated procedure with judgments and reports, a simple written or personal registration with the registry office is now sufficient. After three months, the change can then be certified. A real progress for self -determination!
Since August, numerous people in Schleswig-Holstein have registered for changing their gender entry. The numbers are impressive: In Kiel, registrations were registered in Kiel by October 7, followed by Lübeck with 80 and Flensburg with 58. It is particularly noteworthy that 14 people in Flensburg have booked an appointment at the registry office for the first possible day, November 1st. It is clear: the new law has encouraged many to finally take the step towards self -determination!
a step towards self -determination
In addition to the gender change, first names can also be adjusted. Anyone who will change their gender in the future must make an explanation at the registry office. Particularly important: If the gender entry is changed, the first name must also be adjusted accordingly. However, the Kiel Association Haki e.V. warns that not all registry offices are equally well informed, which can lead to confusion. The new regulation is a significant progress for trans, inter and non -binary people who can now choose between male, female and diverse or even have their gender entry completely deleted.
Andreas Gloël from Pro Familia emphasizes that this law is an important step towards self-determination and that the structural disadvantage of trans-people should combat in everyday life. Despite the positive changes, the challenge remains to reduce prejudices and to promote acceptance in society. A clear call to solidarity and understanding for everyone who has to defend themselves against discrimination and violence!
