Oko scandal on the Baltic Sea: Missunde III fails, old ferry back!

In Schleswig-Holstein, the "Missunde III", a newly developed solar ferry, causes serious problems. The project, which was supposed to start as an environmentally friendly alternative on the Baltic Sea fjord, has turned into an expensive fiasco. With an investment of 3.3 million euros, the ferry should not only present modern technology, but also make a contribution to climate protection. But in the event of wind and current, it turns out that the ship is unable to drive safely. There are constant failures, which leads the region's already environmentally conscious plans to dangerous waters.

A spokesman for the responsible state company for coastal protection, Wolf Paarmann, said that everyone involved had worked to the best of our knowledge and belief. Despite good intentions, it has turned out that the flow conditions on the Schlei were significantly underestimated. These mistakes have made a comprehensive legal review of the case "Missound III" now essential.

old diesel ferry returns

While the new solar ferry is waiting for its repair, the old diesel ferry "Missunde II" was brought back. However, this decision was not without financial consequences. The predecessor ship, which was previously sold for 17,000 euros, had to be brought back to the coast for 100,000 euros. The operator has therefore de facto a loss of 83,000 euros. In view of the poor technical state of "Missunde II", which has practically an operating permit by 2028, the future looks uncertain. However, the State Secretary of Transport Tobias von der Heide remains optimistic.

The old ferry at least temporarily fulfills its purpose, while the problems with the solar ferry remain. Nevertheless, the question arises how long the dilapidated diesel operation can continue as long as the latest technology is in the queue. In October, the “Missunde II” will be brought to the shipyard for repairs for two weeks to ensure safety and efficiency. But even with these measures, the situation remains tense and does not contribute to calming down the residents.

inhabitants start signature action

The annoyed population of the region has now launched a signature campaign to demand the return to the old diesel ferry. Your goal is clear: the "Missunde II" should continue to drive indefinitely in order to ensure more stability in ferry traffic. Rüdiger Jöns, the tenant of the ferry, is optimistic and emphasized that he is willing to drive with “Missunde II” for many years. At the same time, however, it is pointed out that two cross -beam ruders should be installed for the “Missund III” in order to improve maneuverability. However, these changes could delay the planned commissioning until the end of 2025.

The uncertainty around the solar ship also has a noticeable impact on maritime mobility in the region. For the population, the question arises as to how seriously the concerns of those responsible are taken and whether the project can ever meet its future -oriented claim. Despite the assurances and optimism, it remains to be seen how the "Missunde III" continues, and whether the persistent technical difficulties could perhaps herald the end of this environmentally friendly initiative.
