Hafenwirtschaft demands 500 million euros - urgent appeal to the federal government!

The German harbor economy raises the alarm! The President of the Central Association of the German Sea Harbor (ZDS), Angela Titzrath, calls for a drastic increase in financial support from the federal government in Hamburg. Every year, 500 million euros are to be provided for the basic financing of the seaports. Titzrath emphasizes that these funds must be anchored in the coalition agreement of the next federal government to secure the future of German ports.

The urgency of this requirement cannot be overlooked! The ZDS and the coastal countries published the Bremen declaration in September 2023, in which they clearly record their position. While only 400 million euros have been requested annually in the past, the new claim is a clear call to mobilize resources. Currently, only around 38.3 million euros annually flow from the federal government to the countries for investments in the seaports - an amount that is far from sufficient to meet the growing requirements.

investments in the future

The port industry agreed: In order to advance the construction of port systems and ensure competitiveness, additional investments are essential. The current financing is regulated by law, but the industry sees urgent need for action to make the seaports fit for the future. The demand for more money is not only a financial concern, but also a strategic need to strengthen the German port industry in international competition.
