Schlossterrassen in Eutin: Resuscitation for more events!

In the Hanseatic city of Eutin, a revival of the castle terraces, which have been unused for years due to water damage, is announced. Tourism director Michael Keller reacts to the wish of the citizens who want an event location in the city center. The castle terraces could soon be used as an attractive location for trade fairs, promises, theater performances and other events.

The Eutiner need a large indoor location that functions not only in the high season, but also in the off-season as a meeting point. Keller emphasizes that the renovation of the castle terraces could have a positive effect on tourism in the region.

Schlosterrassen: Fire protection is challenged

A central topic that must be taken into account during the planning phase is fire protection. Keller has already held first talks with city representatives to probe the opportunities. "We have to make sure that the new use is safe and practical," he explains. However, there are concerns about the feasibility of these requirements. To ensure fire protection, two walls have to be collected in order to differentiate different areas from one another.

Although the first plans are still in the early stages, Eutin Tourismus GmbH has already developed a concept that could possibly cost up to one million euros. Compared to the city, the GmbH could build 19 percent cheaper due to the input tax deduction.

Keller plans to equip the castle terraces so that you can offer space for up to 600 people at dance events. The location, which previously served as a place for up to 120 events per year, becomes a new attraction for citizens and day tourists after a thorough renovation. Stable sound and sufficient sanitary facilities are also part of the considerations to revive the venue.

The need for these measures was underlined by a survey among the Eutin citizens who complained about the lack of such a location in the city center. The castle terraces could therefore benefit not only the citizens, but also visitors from the nearby cities of Kiel and Lübeck.

already played Hape Kerkeling

The castle terraces have a long history as an event location where well-known artists such as Hape Kerkeling appeared. But the place has been empty for five years because previous renovation attempts have failed. The money from the insurance company for repairing water damage flowed into the general budget, which further complicated the situation. Now Keller is planning a new attempt to bring this historic place back to life.

In order to be able to develop more detailed plans, Keller needs the consent of the political decision -makers. After intensive discussions, however, the main committee said that the city council should give the project green light. Nevertheless, it remains unclear whether this proposal is actually approved.

The castle terraces could not only contribute to the delight of the Eutin citizens, but also boost tourism. Keller is convinced that the location on Eutiner See offers visitors a space of relaxation where creative ideas can arise. "Such an environment leads to innovations that often go under in the hustle and bustle of the big city," he says.
