Selenskyj demands everything for peace pressure: Now every step counts!

Kiev (dpa) - After his return from a visit to the United States, Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj called up the citizens of his country to mobilize all strength to achieve just peace. In an urgent video address, he explained: "We have to use everything that is possible this autumn to increase pressure on Russia and end the war."

Selenskyj emphasized the need to unite military and diplomatic efforts and to work on the agreements achieved in the USA. The upcoming meeting of Ukraine supporters, which will take place on October 12 in Ramstein, Rhineland-Palatinate, is particularly important, where US President Joe Biden is also expected. "Now it is necessary to work in front of Ramstein," said the Ukrainian head of state.

difficult situation on the front

In the case of the front lines, Selenskyj admits that the situation is "very difficult". Kiev troops have been under considerable pressure in the east for months, especially in the Donetsk area, where Moscow has moved to cities such as Pokrowsk, Kurachowe and Wabledar. The general staff in Kiev reported about 160 battles in one day, with about 70 of them in the region mentioned. Although official reports report high losses on the Russian side, Russian units are already entering the city of Wabledar, which was previously considered to be difficult.

A addressed topic during Selenskyj's trip to the USA was support from international partners. When asked about far -reaching weapons on the offensive in Russia, Selenskyj could not report any positive news. The approval of an essential demand - the preservation of weapons for targeted blows in Russia - was not possible, which was seen by experts as a lack of success. Kurt Walker, the former US special representative for Ukraine, announced that the visit had not brought the desired results, but the weapon ban could possibly change before the upcoming US elections.

Resentment about the peace plan

Another important point is Kiev's annoyance on the Swiss support of a peace plan, which was presented by Brazil and China. According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, all initiatives that do not refer to the UN chart or do not completely restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine are unacceptable. Such proposals would only maintain the illusion of a dialogue, while Kiev is not taken into account in the negotiations.

This happened after Switzerland took part in a meeting last week in which a plan for an end to the war that had been going on since 2022. Among other things, the plan provides for a ceasefire along the current front line. Nicolas Bideau, a representative of the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed that all peace plans based on international law and territorial integrity were valuable and the principle was also recognized in a final declaration of the past Ukraine peace conference.

Political developments in Kiev are significant because they not only affect internal mobilization in Ukraine, but also strongly influence international support and diplomatic relationships. One fact is that despite difficulties in the front line and discrepancies in negotiations with international partners, the Ukrainian president continues to focus on support and cooperation in the world to find the best possible solution for Ukraine.
