Scholz about Trump: There is dancing with those who are in the hall!
Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) is optimistic about working with the future US President Donald Trump. In an interview with the ARD show "Caren Miosga", Scholz explained: "I am never naive, but always a bit fearless." He emphasizes the importance of a functioning transatlantic relationship and says flippant: "There is dancing with those who are in the hall." This also applies to Trump, who sharply criticized Germany in his first term of office due to low military spending and other topics.
Scholz points out that Germany now does justice to NATO goals and spends two percent of the gross domestic product for defense. He also expects Trump that he complies with the agreement for the stationing of US medium-sized routes in Germany, which was made under the incumbent President Joe Biden. "This is an agreement that we have made with the USA. It is in our common interest. So I want to accept it," says Scholz.
Scholz counters Musk
In the interview, Scholz also dealt with Elon Musk's most recent criticism, who supports Trump and described Scholz as "fool" on platform X. Scholz reacted calmly: "It nobody." He added that he did not comment on tech billionaires because they are not heads of state, even if it sometimes appears that some tech companies are more powerful than states. Scholz remains unimpressed by the billionaires' statements and relies on a pragmatic attitude towards the new US government.
