Security in front of the train station: Neumünster is planning police pavilion!

The city of Neumünster plans to strengthen the feeling of security, a new police station right in front of the train station. Mayor Tobias Bergmann (SPD) presented the proposal to convert an empty snack pavilion into a security guard for the federal and state police at this central point. According to Bergmann, the federal police would be ready to operate a guard in addition to the existing station, but the city would have to cover the costs for the conversion and additional costs, as on kn-online.de

The total costs for the renovation of the pavilion, which has been empty since March 2024, are between 140,000 and 340,000 euros, depending on whether air conditioning must be installed. The conversion could take 27 to 30 weeks, whereby the city is planning to only carry out essential hygienic work. The pavilion was originally sold in 2009 and bought back from the city in 2020, intended to tear it down in the future. In view of the planned renovation measures, the final decision about the security guard is met by a committee that initially wants to obtain the opinion of other committees.

planned security guard remains controversial

The topic has already caused discussions in the town hall. Although many local politicians support the idea, there are also concerns about the high costs for a temporary solution that should be active, especially during the day. While the Committee on Building, Urban Planning and Environment (BSU) will treat the topic again at its next meeting on February 1, the council members would also like to obtain the statement of the committee for fire brigade, security and order, as mentioned on neumuenster.de
