Wismar shows heart: Help for the war -plagued Tschornomorsk!
Wismar, Deutschland - In a solidarity sign, Thomas Beyer, Mayor of Wismar, and the chairman of the Christian aid association Wismar e.V., Frieder Weinhold, recently called for donations for the Ukrainian city of Tschornomorsk. This city, which is located about 20 kilometers southwest of Odessa on the Black Sea, is suffering from massive energy bottlenecks, since Russia has been bombarding the infrastructure in Ukraine since November 23, 2024. The residents of Tschornomorsk only get three to four hours of electricity, light and warmth per day. In order to improve the difficult situation of the population, the city has set up heat rooms in which people can drink hot tea and charge devices.
The call to donate aims at the acquisition of electricity generators, since the existing ones are not sufficient. The city administration of Tschornomorsk has explicitly asked for additional generators. The Christian aid association Wismar takes over the transport of these urgently needed devices. Donations can be transferred to the Sparkasse, whereby the intended use "generators for Ukraine" should be specified. So far, Wismar has already had partnerships with six cities, including Lübeck and Kalmar in Sweden.
Visit to Tschornomorsk
The expectations of the Ukrainian partners are met; Videos from Tschornomorsk show the gratitude of the citizens for the support, including a minibus and portable electricity storage, which were handed over to the school and a children's home. During a program in a school, children were distributed and the desire for peace in the region impressively expressed.
