New album by Andreas Dorau: A musical adventure through Vienna!
The Hamburg musician Andreas Dorau brings a breath of fresh air to the music world with his new album "Vienna"! After over 40 years in business, celebrated for his hit "Fred vom Jupiter", he now introduces himself as a tourist in the Austrian capital. His inspiration for this extraordinary concept came to him during the Corona pandemic when he worked on an alternative city guide for Lübeck. He wanted to focus on stories away from the usual tourist paths. "I wanted to stay Karl May, the tourist in this city," said Dorau in an interview with the Kurier .
an unmistakable sound image
Dorau worked on his album for three years, which comes on the market on time for the Record Store Day. In addition to the main tracks, the two CDs also offer a bonus CD on which unpublished pieces can be found. "I found the sound of the word Vienna fascinating," he explains. Although his album musically portrays the city musically, he distances himself from clichés: "I didn't want to write any pieces about Mozart or Schönbrunn Castle," he emphasizes. Inspired by the nightlife of Vienna and local landmarks such as the Strudlhofstiege and the Ferris wheel, "Vienna" is a tribute to the city through the eyes of an outsider.
In the title piece "Austria" Dorau addresses the variety of the music scene, which is summarized under this term, which is rapping it because the artists and styles have hardly a common basis. His memories of the city are also mixed: as a child, he collected the first impressions at a Lipizzaner show and experienced the gray Vienna in the 1980s, which has changed since then. His curiosity and love for language drive him, which is why the texts are designed both narrative and atmospherically. "I am still interested in finding new ways with texts," continues Dorau, such as The small time reported.
