Haunetal cycle path shines: New asphalt for 2.5 kilometers of pleasure!

In a joint project, the municipalities of Haunetal and Hauneck made significant progress for regional bicycle traffic. The new section of the Haunetal cycle path (R12) between Odensachsen and Oberhaun was successfully renovated and officially opened. This renewal is not only a simple milestone for cyclists, but also an important sign of promoting sustainable mobility in the region.

The newly paved section extends over 2.5 kilometers and replaces a previously graveled farm. In addition to asphalt, various important infrastructure measures were also implemented. This includes the production of banquets for the safety of cyclists and the installation of frost protection and soil improvement elements. Markings have been added to facilitate the use of the path. The newly used quartz -lively asphalt has the additional advantage that it minimizes the heating during the hot summer months.

financing and challenges

The total cost of the project amounts to around EUR 750,000, with the state of Hesse providing generous support of 75 %. The remaining costs are divided between the two communities. The construction work, which was carried out from April to September 2024, presented those responsible for some challenges. Part of the route is located in a flood area of the Haune and also runs in the immediate vicinity of a railway line, which required precisely and careful planning. The company Räuber Bauunternehmen GmbH from Bad Hersfeld was responsible for the execution of the construction work, while the engineering office Falkenhahn from Fulda took over the plans.

During a ceremonial opening in HermannSpiegel, the mayors of Haunetal and Hauneck, Timo Lübeck and Stephan Bolender, paid tribute to the committed work of the companies and building authorities involved. District Administrator Torsten Warnecke and the member of the state parliament Tanja Hartdegen also took part in this significant occasion. After cutting the symbolic red band, the guests were tasted with drinks and fresh ploatz from the local baker Christian Streck, which rounded off the ceremony.

In addition to the successful renovation of this section, further measures are also being planned. The market town of Haunetal was already renovating a part between Rhina and Neukirchen last year. Hessen Mobil also gave the promise to expand the section along the B27 between the Sennhütte and Rhina/Neukirchen in the near future. A renewal of the Haune Bridge near Odensachsen is also on the agenda, which will further upgrade the bike path. The renewal of the Haunetal cycle path not only symbolizes an improvement in the cycling infrastructure, but also underlines the commitment of the municipalities to promote sustainable mobility. The positive effects of these projects are a step in the right direction and make the region more attractive for both residents and visitors.
