Unlimited strike in public transport: Bus drivers in Schleswig-Holstein start!

Lübeck. An indefinite strike in local public transport from Schleswig-Holstein has started! After an overwhelming consent of 98.64 percent of its members, the Verdi union has laid down the work of Autkraft, Rohde and Co. Verdi spokesman Frank Schischefsky announced that the buses could not only step on the strike at stops, but also while driving. This is a dramatic escalation that already caused massive failures in the regions of Ostholstein, Rendsburg-Eckernförde, Schleswig-Flensburg, Dithmarschen and Nordfriesland.

The background? A burst collective agreement with the Omnibusverband Nord (OVN), which questions the financing of new wages and premiums. The OVN has withdrawn the collective bargaining conclusion because the state government wants to shorten the funds for local public transport. Sascha Bähring, negotiator at Verdi Nord, warned: "If the OVN does not recognize these signals, a historical escalation in the rural regions will be inevitable." The unrest is noticeable and the bus drivers can no longer be abused as a savings instrument!

Where is strike?

The strike affects several OVN companies with over 2000 bus drivers. The regions of Bad Schwartau, Ostholstein, Stormarn, Segeberg and the Duchy of Lauenburg are particularly affected. While the city buses are not affected in Lübeck, Kiel, Flensburg and Neumünster, massive failures in Ostholstein and Stormarn are expected. The union has announced that the strikes can begin at any time and without notice, which increases uncertainty for commuters and students.

The students in Schleswig-Holstein have to adapt to significant restrictions, especially in Ostholstein and Stormarn. However, the Minister of Education has emphasized that regular school operations will take place despite the strikes. Parents can keep their children at home if necessary or pick it up prematurely to ensure that nobody gets into trouble.
