Kiel, Deutschland - The record winner THW Kiel made the sensation perfect and thrown the defending champion SC Magdeburg from the German Handball Cup! In a gripping duel, the North Germans triumphed 29:28 (14:14) and thus secured the place in the quarter -finals. After the impressive 29:24 victory in the league, this is the second success of the Doubles winner of the past season.

The game was a real thriller! Both teams fought a bitter struggle. The Magdeburg goalkeeper Sergey Hernandez put the guests in the lead with a goal in the empty Kiel Tor in the 41st minute with 20:18. But Kiel countered strongly: Bence Imre equalized in the 53rd minute to 25:24. Domagoj Duvnjak and Hendrik Pekeler added overnight and increased to 28:26 in the 58th minute. The North Germans brought this narrow lead over time and celebrated the move into the quarter -finals!

The SG Flensburg-Handewitt was also strong and prevailed with 33:26 (14:13) at TSV Hannover-Burgdorf. Unlike the Bundesliga defeat, the Flensburgers remained concentrated until the end and gave coach Nicolej Krickau on his 38th birthday. Kevin Möller was the hero of the game with 18 parades! Justus Fischer scored eight goals for Hanover.

The league leaders MT Melsungen had a hard time, they only won 32:27 (14:15) in the final phase against the second division team Tusem Essen. There was a surprise at the HSC Coburg, which defeated the higher class TBV Lemgo Lippe with 29:28 (14:14). The THSV Eisenach won in an east duel against SC DHfK Leipzig with 30:24 (15:10). The last third division team, HC Empor Rostock, left after a 28:36 defeat against the second division club HBW Balingen-Weilstetten.
