Schleswig-Holstein in the fast lane: battery brackets set new standards!
Eckernförde, Deutschland - Schleswig-Holstein is now becoming national attention with its innovative pioneer project: the battery trains! After the country was considered a problem child in the railway industry for a long time, three modern battery -operated trains of the Nordbahn have been on the route between Eckernförde and Kiel since Monday. These battery trains replace the outdated diesel vehicles and marked significant progress in environmentally friendly mobility. Prime Minister Daniel Günther described the project as pioneering for Schleswig-Holstein, which now rises nationwide to second place on the electrically operated railway lines.
With a total of 55 low-emission battery drafts, Schleswig-Holstein significantly improves its rail infrastructure. The state increases the proportion of electrically operated railway lines from 27 percent to an impressive 68 percent! More lines will soon benefit from mid-December, including between Husum and Kiel as well as Kiel and Schleibrücke-Süd. Experts forecast savings of 10 million liters annually diesel and 26,000 tons of CO2. The vehicle technology, which requires shorter overhead line lines at train stations, also makes it easier to use. While overhead line islands have already been installed in Heide, further electrifications are being planned. For more details, the report of www.ndr.de .
