Military aid for Ukraine: Germany's burden remains low!
Deutschland - Germany's military support for Ukraine has been less stressful since 2022 than often claims. With a total of 10.6 billion euros, which corresponds to around 0.1 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), the Federal Republic has provided an average of around EUR 4 billion per year. For comparison: During the first Gulf War in 1991, Germany paid about 0.6 percent of the GDP in a single year, which today corresponded to 25.5 billion euros. These figures show that current support is low compared to previous conflicts.
high costs when the support is stopped
A new study warns of the devastating consequences when Germany stops its military help to Ukraine. The stop would not only have a wave of additional refugees who would have to be accommodated, medically cared for and integrated into education systems, but also significantly increase Germany's security contributions for Europe. In addition, Germany could be confronted with massive economic losses through trade interruptions and the loss of direct investments in Ukraine.
In addition to these direct costs, there are also indirect loads that may not be ignored. The elimination of western deterrence could increase the likelihood of future conflicts and thus endanger stability in the region. The lost trading and growth opportunities would also be a painful loss for the German economy.
