Total clothing container overcrowded: Soex in the crisis-what kind of Schleswig-Holstein?
In Schleswig-Holstein there is a red alarm level! The old clothing container overflows and the Situation is becoming more and more dramatic. At over 400 collection points in Kiel, Lübeck and in the district of Plön, dirty sweaters are piling up, soaked jackets and shoes, while the responsible authorities and the German Red Cross observe the worrying situation. The reason for the chaos is the bankruptcy request of the Ahrensburg -based company Soex, which is usually responsible for emptying the containers. There has been no relief since the beginning of October - the containers remain full!
temporary collective stops
The situation is so serious that the population in the district of Plön is first asked not to bring old clothing to the collection points anymore. The State Office for the Environment confirms the problem and reports that SOEX plans to start the collection points again, but the implementation is still there. In the meantime, the district of Plön has created a hand and begins to empty the containers, but that is only a short -term solution. In Kiel, on the other hand, Soex has already started the approximately 180 locations, but it will still take time for the overflowing piles to disappear. So far, no major problems with the emptying of the old clothing containers are known in Neumünster, but the situation remains tense.
The effects are enormous: around 1.1 million tons of textiles end up in the old clothing containers or at street collections every year. The Corona crisis has reinforced this trend. What to do with all the old clothes? The population is facing a dilemma and desperately looking for solutions. A sensor from Norderstedt could help in the future to avoid overflowing containers and improve the situation!
