555 gifts for orphans: Dithmarscher help in Warsaw!

In a dramatic incident on the beaches of Föhr, Amrum and Sylt, several packages of cocaine have been discovered in the past few days. In total, it is around 175 kilograms of the drug with an estimated road sales value of twelve million euros. The origin of the packages is still unclear. Andreas Thaysen from the Hamburg Zoll investigator believes that they may have been attached to a ship and have dissolved from it. Another suspicion is that the parcels were deliberately dropped in the sea, such as Investigations run at full speed

The Flensburg public prosecutor's office has initiated investigations to clarify the incident. In order to find further packages, the customs authorities have announced that they will search the beaches more in the next few days. Beach visitors are asked to report suspicious objects immediately. These alarming finds are not isolated: In summer, the customs investigation office had already determined an increase in cocaine smuggling in Schleswig-Holstein, whereby the North Sea is considered a possible main transport path.

In another positive light, the humanitarian action of a Dithmarscher aid organization, which on Monday has sent a total of 555 gift packages for Ukrainian orphans to Warsaw. According to the managing director of Hoelp, Gerhard Wiekhorst, the aid campaign was strongly supported by the population. The lovingly packaged packages contain clothing and toys and are accepted in the Ukrainian embassy and then being distributed in the orphanages, such as ndr reported.

These events illustrate the different challenges with which the region is currently confronted, from combating drug trafficking to the support of needy children.
